How contak Works
This page explains how contak will operate and describes the services available to users.
contak users will generally fall into two categories : those who are looking for a resource to hire in
(a customer) ; and those who have a resource which may be available for hiring out (a supplier). At different times
any one user may be a customer and a supplier.
Resource Customers
Details of all the available machines, equipment, tools and labour can be accessed via this website by clicking
here or by clicking on 'view resources' in the main menu under the 'Customers' button.
During the search you will also be able to link directly to the relevant section in the Practical Solutions Handbook
for information about the type of operation you are interested in.
Once you have located a suitable resource you then contact the supplier of that resource in order to arrange a hire
- contact details are listed along with the resource details.
Resource Suppliers
If you have a resource such as machinery, equipment, tools or labour which could be available for hire to another
party you can submit details of the resource by clicking here or by clicking on 'submit resource'
in the main menu under the 'Suppliers' button. You will need to register with contak the first time you do this in order
to create a User ID and a password.
General
Any subsequent hire agreement is between the customer and the supplier - it does not involve contak, which seeks
only to facilitate the process. We do provide information on best practice by making available a hire contract form which
can be amended to suit the circumstances of any particular agreement and by offering advice on risk assessment, training
and certification. This information is available by clicking on 'information' in the main menu.
Insurance
Insurance is likely to be an important part of any hire agreement. We are currently looking at ways of facilitating
conveniently arranged insurance for all contak users - progress will be reported as soon as suitable arrangements
are in place. In the meantime we would recommend that either the customer or the supplier make independent arrangements,
and that this is stated in the hire contract.
Machine Movement
The responsibility for uplift and return will normally rest with the customer and this can be agreed as part of the
hire contract - details of hauliers offering such services can be found by clicking here.
Inclusion in the database does not confer a recommendation from contak
